Kings World Podcast - Ep 1.10

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

In the 10th episode, Marie and I look at what the Kings have been up to leading into the new season. There have been some developments concerning the rookies and some Kings players. We also note the many pictures floating around the interwebs related to the Kings (i.e. The Price is Right). We round it out with the usual shoutouts and exit. Enjoy!

Our apologies for how Marie was sounding in the episode. She was using a different computer since she is currently moving and her computer is still packed away.

Great show, guys. A little weird though, as Connie's volume was way too loud.

Connie September 17, 2008 at 9:28 AM

Huh, that's funny because I always thought your face was pretty loud.

Thanks for listening! =)

I'm sorry... I can't hear you... ears... ringing...

Connie September 17, 2008 at 10:38 AM

Silly, Greener. I should ask you when you're doing your own podcast. Tick tick tick...

I'm on this one earlier than usual today and I have a few comments... Army with the "A", when the picture showed up on the NHL.com frozen moment and you could see that the jersey with the "A" was a pre-RBK Edge. I couldn't find it anywhere but maybe he had it for the 06-07 Season? http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?fmid=2046&page=FrozenMoments&service=page. About the seasoned players being traded for low round draft picks, what about Aubin traded for a seventh round pick? now that had to be insulting. Toward the end you were talking about Bernier's mask, I watched most of the rookie game and he had the same one he wore at the beginning of last season.

Hmm, I’ll do some research into those pictures later tonight when I get home. Good eye though.

I had completely forgotten about Aubin. You’re totally right; he was traded for a very low round pick. I remember laughing and cringing when I heard about that because he really seems like a good guy but just the victim of an unfortunate defense last year. I got a picture taken with him last season, and he only put out nice guy vibes.

Ahh, I forgot to look at Bernier’s mask during the rookie game. I kind of didn’t like the design on that mask from last year either... what do you think?

Brad September 17, 2008 at 12:45 PM

here's a good view of bernier's mask. I like it, but there's just too much going on. I really like Ersberg's Hollywood mask, but then, I like the guy period. My hope is for Labarbara/Ersberg in LA and Bernier with the #1 spot in Manchester for next year. That way we can see more of Ersberg and give him a fair chance, and for the inevitable situation where barbs goes down on an injury we can call up Bernier and see him play a few games for the Kings.

Connie September 17, 2008 at 1:09 PM

Those are good views of both masks. Yeah, I was never feeling Bernier’s mask, but I agree about Ersberg’s though. I like the color tones on that one. I’m glad he has a great fan in you! I wanna meet him and get a picture with him... perhaps at the Meet the Players thing for the season ticket holders in November.

I like all three goalies that could potentially play this season, but it would probably be best for Bernier to be in Manchester. I can wait for him to develop into what’s expected of him. There’s really no point in rushing him if Barbs and Ersberg are both on top of their games.

By the way, have you heard of any nicknames for Ersberg?

Brad September 17, 2008 at 1:15 PM

nicknames? not really. though i jokingly refer to him as Erik "The Man" Ersberg, due to his exciting performance in the games he played and my intense dislike of Labarbara. I even looked forward to the games that Aubin started early last season. Who knows, it kind of works along the same lines as JMFJ.

Connie September 17, 2008 at 2:11 PM

You liked Aubin more than Barbs? Yikes.

Even though some of these NHL players have lame nicknames, you still have to have one. I'm sure Ersberg's is something like "Eggy."

JMFJ is a pretty sick nickname though. I think Jack will get closer to that form this season since he'll be more comfortable out there.

Brad September 17, 2008 at 2:30 PM

I don't know, I found myself always upset when Labarbara was in goal. I can't wait until his contract isn't renewed next summer. It will be a joyous occasion, one to be celebrated for sure. I mean, if Jason Labarbara is such a badass, why wasn't it him starring opposite Ryan Miller in the Amp Energy commercial?

Connie September 17, 2008 at 3:16 PM

Oh, that makes me sad. I've always had a soft spot for Barbs. He's such a cool guy; it's just too bad that he was riddled with injuries last season. =/

That wasn't Aubin's doing to be in that commercial. It was his agent who asked him if he was interested in doing it. That whole thing was random. I about fell off my couch when I saw it for the first time.

So...Connie...what is it you REALLY want Patrick O'Sullivan to teach you? It can't be hockey. :-)

Connie September 18, 2008 at 6:15 AM

Actually, I would like to get some hockey lessons from him. What else is he doing with his days right now? Not working out with the Kings, that much I know... =/
