Kings World Podcast - Ep 1.9
Wednesday, September 10, 2008
This week Marie and I hunker down and record an episode since it's been two weeks since the last show. We talk about the latest updates, which include Jarret Stoll's new contract, and the Breakfast With The GM we attended on Saturday. Order doesn't seem to be had in 1.9, but we manage to last through the recording, give our shoutouts, and peace out. Enjoy!
Please check us out at our respective blogs and at: http://kingsworldpodcast.podbean.com/
We welcome any and all feedback! Please direct any questions, comments, or thoughts to kingsworldpodcast[at]gmail[dot]com.

Just in case you haven't seen this:

Oh, I've seen that. Just... harsh.
Great show, guys! Best one yet.
Thanks for listening, Greener!
Connie...when you were talking about Jeff Giuliano..."...quite a behind?"
And you complain about the Kings having ice girls??
*ahem*
About Teubert...here's the details:

And, technically, Stoll has not been signed to a contract...yet. They've agreed in principle on the 4 years and $14.4 million, but...more here...

Sorry about the shameless plugs. But those two posts do have the info you were wondering about. :-)
Marie's recollection about Lombardi talking about Daniel Taylor was correct, FYI.
Regarding who Lombardi was referring to when he said he rushed to hire them, he told me in my interview with him that he was referring to infrastructure folks in his hockey operations department, not players. And he was undoubtedly referring to Marc Crawford.
And...Dustin Brown will be the captain. Kopitar will be one assistant. Place a bet on that.
Gann - I have no doubt that Marc Crawford was a mistake. But we have a different coach and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with the roster. I'd be surprised if Brownie didn't get the captaincy.
I just got around to listening to it this morning, but along your mentions of team captains, at the Price is Right showing you can see Army wearing an "A" which I don't recall him having last year? The retirements... Matty Norstrom was captain for about six years and played about ten and a half seasons for the Kings which is the same amount of time that Roy played in Montreal.
Hey, Brad. Thanks much for listening! Army was wearing an A? I didn't notice that in the pictures. Good eye!
Do you think Matty should be retired? You could argue that Roy did more than Matty on their respective teams. But their ends with their teams were quite different.
Norstrom was well loved and respected (definitely one of my favorite all time kings). It has been my experience that defense is one of those positions that is difficult to show for. I can tell you that's what kept me from the varsity hockey team in high school (bastards). Norstrom was with the team for the only four playoff appearances after the 93 run (it's kind of sad when you look at it that way) and he was captain for two or three playoff runs? But then again, as you mentioned in the podcast, I don't know what criteria they use to retire numbers.
The price is right article I saw on Inside the Kings is here. There's a picture of Armstrong standing next to the giant green Switzerland sign where you can clearly see the "A"
Back on the Norstrom thing... notable players in our system after that trade are Oscar Moller and Colten Teubert.
All good points, Brad. And there's been no chatter about Norstrom coming from the Kings... but I think we have enough things to worry about right now than if Matty's number is going to get retired. I'm sorry about your high school hockey team, by the way. Bummer.
That picture of Army wearing an A is definitely blatant. I thought they waited until the start of the season to announce and make public those decisions.
